I don't even track what is that populus likes, have concluded long time ago plebs have shitty taste, so I generally stick to the games that were released years, if not decades, ago. There is a graphics style I will definitely never enjoy and thus will skip in advance: it is called anime. Games that imitate Hollywood movies also go to hell. Otherwise I only keep track of games I like.
Also, screw that practice that gives reboot the same or really similar name (in a way that produces confusion) from another game in the "series".

Ugh, can't stand no cheeky chinchilla stalking-me through-out Kanto, so Red or Blue are the go-to colours and as burden of proof; here's the finger of scorn pointed at the bootleg version of such despicable fan-favorite while the obvious, superior version leans to the right and bears the Nintendo seal of approval. Moreover; the 2nd generation of the series still crispy & nostalgic to me, 3rd no so much tho as is ridden with poor design choices (I can only stomach Fire-Red or Leaf-Green) but anything pass that is just pure japanese AIDs hell.. a disgrace to their ancestors.

Skyrim, the most overhyped piece of shit I've ever experienced in my life. It was so hyped up that every dudebro, that normally didn't give a single fuck about computer games, had to talk about it in 2011/2012.
At my old workplace colleagues even said stuff like "BEST RPG EVAAAAAAARRRR!!!1". If you questioned the narrative and brought up any older game you received instant death stares and typical normie answers: "nobody played that shit, fucking nerd". I played Skyrim on a free weekend many years later. Suffered through this miserable long intro, stared at absolutely terrible textures, killed a guard in the following scene with an axe, which then flew right through a wall and was stuck with his legs out. I chuckled painfully and uninstalled instantly.

If that's all you saw from the game, then you've missed on a lot of what makes Skyrim the most overrated piece of shit RPG ever made. But a lot of its problems date back to Oblivion, which i still haven't played because of how much i hated Skyrim, and probably never will. The game is just a generic, casual hack and slasher, with no consequences for the actions you take. There are no stakes, no restrictions, no penalties. You can be a fucking heavy armored warrior, dumb as fuck, untrained in any magic skills, and still become the Archmage of Hogwarts, and also the leader of both the Thieve's Guild and the Dark Brotherhood (the Assassin's Guild). Or the oposite, you can be a pure mage, and leader of the thieves/assassin's and the fighter's guild. What kind of sense does that make in a role playing game? All in-game choices lead to the same solutions, with minor exceptions that are inconsequential. All side quests are either small errands that you perform by fast travelling through the map in a few minutes, or are over-dragged boring chores, that almost always lead you to a repetitive linear dungeon/cave/crypt, that you must go through, fight the same enemies every time, until you reach the end and collect an artifact... the same fucking shit every single time. It will drive you mad with its repetitiveness. Everything is a fucking bore - the characters suck ass, the quest lines are generic and uninspired, you can just skip dialogues and follow quest markers like a mindless zombie... it makes no difference. The only positive thing i can say about Skyrim is that it has a nice Nordic atmosphere, but it ends up being wasted because of the other shit. You'll end up being sick of it because of how long and repetitive the game is. Morrowind is probably the best RPG made by Betshitsda, but it's still quite flawed compared to other games mentioned below - no voice acting, ridiculous dialogue system, terrible quest log that makes it hard to follow your progress, and on top of that, very generic errand boy fetch quests. Still, it has the best atmosphere and exploration in the TES series, mainly because it has no quest markers, and navigation is very satisfying. Also, the loot you find is so much better than Skyrim, and has actual value, because there is no level scaling and your character makes meaningful growth and progress. The combat system is once again like from a mindless hack and slasher. If you're looking for the gold standard of RPGs, the first two games from the German saga Gothic is what you need, unless you've already played them. If you did, then there's not much to look out for. Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is a really nice RPG with great atmosphere, but it will leave you wanting more, because it's kind of small in scale and from what i've read, not fully realized by the developers. The same goes for the first Mass Effect, which is great, but it was ruined by its sequels... yeah, i said it - Mass Effect 2 sucks! I often read huge praises for the first Deus Ex, but i haven't found the motivation to try it out yet, it's quite janky, you see... i will need to gather some patience before i play it.
